How to Enable/Disable Cachewall from cPanel Account?
Cachewall is a Varnish cache server placed in front of Apache. The purpose of Cachewall is to cache the website contents to improve the performance of the website and to decrease loading times and to reduce resource usage. When the cached page is served directly, no queries are fired when a user requests the same page of your website.
It is supported by cPanel under both CentOS 6 and CentOS 7. The software can be installed in both dedicated and virtual server environments. Cachewall works with all cPanel versions, EasyApache 3, EasyApache 4 and LiteSpeed Web server.
We can set up the time period for cache storage. By default, the dynamic file/contents like PHP files needing a much shorter cache period. So we can set the shorter cache period for such file.
The caching period for the static file type such as images, js files needs greater periods of time. The cached data will be stored for the time we have configured and then the cache will be refreshed whenever the user requests the same page again. So that the website can be loaded faster if the same page is requested by another user.
Enable /Disable Cachewall
1) To begin with the process, log in to your cPanel hosting account.
2) Navigate to “Cachewall” under software section.
3) You will see a screen just like the following image. From this section, you can manage to Enable/Disable the Varnish, Purge the cache & can enable development mode too.
Enabling development mode will disable Cachewall on that domain for a period of 3 hours, after that time it will be automatically re-enabled. This should provide you with enough time to work on your website without experiencing any stale cache issues.
You can enable development mode by clicking ‘Enable Development Mode’ button beside the domain name.
Sometimes the caching conflicts the website configuration. In such cases, you can also disable the Cachewall for your domain by simply clicking on the “Cachewall” icon under the ‘Software’ section. Locate the domain name you wish to disable caching on and then click the ‘On’ button to toggle the cache off.
The option “Purge Cache” is used to clear all the cache for your website. If you turn off the Cachewall or enable the Development Mode, this option will not be applicable.
After enabling the Cachewall on your website, you can see a significant change on the website performance.
